Humanities Washington’s Public Humanities Fellows program hopes to change that by offering a stipend and support to early-career humanists (including graduate students, nonprofit professionals, untenured professors, culture bearers, and other humanities experts) who are seeking to develop their program management and public humanities skills. This is the first paid public humanities fellows of its kind in Washington State, either inside or outside of academia.

Fellows receive a stipend of $5000 and up to $3500 to fund the public humanities project, as well as professional development opportunities, technical assistance and mentorship from public humanities professionals, and regular meetings with a cohort of other fellows. Humanists from communities who are underrepresented in the humanities are especially encouraged to apply.

“The humanities are for everyone,” said Stone Addington, director of programs at Humanities Washington. “They can change lives and fill them with meaning, yet they are often seen as the exclusive domain of colleges and universities.
